This home exterior painting project is close to home for us. We are based in South Daytona, and this is one of the houses we painted in town. It is a typical single story block and stucco home, the kind you see on most streets here.
The finished scheme is a taupe grey body with white trim around the garage, the windows and the fascia, plus a red front door set back under the entry arch. We took two photos of the finished front, one with the owner's car in the driveway and one without, so you can see the garage door and trim clearly.

What colors work well on a stucco house in South Daytona?
Mid tone neutrals like this taupe grey hold up well, and they are easy to live with. They hide dust and pollen better than white, and they fade more gracefully than a strong color.
Sun is the big factor here. A dark body color on a west facing wall takes a beating every afternoon, and bright colors can shift noticeably within a few years. A taupe or greige body with white trim avoids most of that. It also sits comfortably next to the tan and grey houses on most streets in town, which matters if you have neighbors or an HOA to think about.
Then you add one color that is yours. On this house it is the red front door. It is small, it is set back under the arch, and it is still the first thing you notice from the street. That is how we usually suggest people use a strong color: on a door, not on the whole house.
Why does white trim make such a difference on a stucco home?
Because it draws the outline of the house. Without it, a stucco wall, a garage door and a window all blur together into one block of color.
Look at the photo without the car. The white band around the garage opening, the trim at the roofline and the frames around the windows are what make the house look sharp. They are also the most time consuming part of the job. Every edge where white meets taupe has to be cut in cleanly, and a wavy line there shows from the street.
Trim also takes more wear than walls. Fascia boards sit under the gutter line and get wet often, so they need to be sound before they are painted. Soft or rotted wood gets flagged at the estimate, and we tell you whether it should be replaced first. We also do trim painting on its own when the walls are still in good shape.
